Dr. Grimes grew up in Anniston, AL, owning an array of animals that ranged from cats to horses. She attended Auburn University, where she graduated in 1982 from the Auburn University School of Veterinary Medicine. She began practicing in Birmingham, AL, in 1984 and made her purchase of Altadena Valley Animal Clinic in 1995. In 2008, Dr. Grimes expanded her practice into the neighboring building, producing 8 luxurious doggy suites, a spacious new cat boarding area, and a cat playroom. In 2023, Dr. Grimes continued her veterinary education at Chi University, studying Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine and completing the Veterinary Acupuncture course, fulfilling all requirements to be recognized as a Certified Veterinary Acupuncturist.
What Dr. Grimes loves about her job as a veterinarian is building long-term relationships with her clients, human and animal. She loves treating pets from puppies and kittens all the way to their geriatric stages of life. In her free time, Dr. Grimes loves watching Hallmark movies, seasonally decorating her home, and spending time with her husband, 3 children, their spouses, and 3 grandchildren. Of course, Dr. Grimes has animal children as well. She currently owns Lucky Lou, a goofy, tailless black cat; Dinah, a sassy black cat; Isadora, a quirky tortoiseshell; and Smokey, a dachshund who loves to dig holes in the backyard. She also frequently babysits her grand dogs: two French bulldogs and a lab mix.
Dr. Grimes is a member of the Jefferson County Veterinary Medical Association, Alabama Veterinary Medical Association, American Veterinary Medical Association, and the World Association of Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine.
I love AVAC! Dr Brennan always takes time to answer all my questions and does a thorough exam when I bring my pups in. I love how she sits down in the floor with them because they are always anxious. The vet techs are great and very knowledgeable. I feel like they really care about my fur babies and provide them with excellent care.
Altadena has always treated my pets with such great care! The Drs and techs are so friendly and knowledgeable as well as the other staff. They get very excited to see my pets and we will be staying here for good!
My family dog of 15 years passed away recently. Dr. Brennan treated us with so much kindness. She explained the process and gave us as much time as we needed to say goodbye. I’m very grateful for her compassion during such a hard time.
Hershey absolutely loves coming here and gets so excited when we pull up. He always comes home happy and healthy. A couple times, they have called me to let me know he didn’t eat while boarding or had a little diarrhea, but they always check with me before doing anything extra with him. They truly care about the pets in their care! Kudos to the entire staff and thank you for all you do!
My cat, who’s my entire world, wasn’t feeling great so I made an appointment same day with Altadena Clinic. They made sure my cat was well taken care, walked me through everything and even did a follow up check in. It’s client service like that, which builds loyalty and respect. Thank you especially to Leslie & Dr Gonzalez for treating my baby with kindness & care.
