Like most issues in human and veterinary medicine, prevention is much more effective and less expensive than treatment and this is especially true with oral health. Studies indicate that by age three, a large percentage of dogs and cats begin showing signs of dental disease. To help prevent dental disease from developing in pets, good oral hygiene should begin at an early age and continue throughout their lives. We recommend regular dental checkups and cleanings at least every 1 to 2 years in most cases.
Beginning at home care such as brushing your puppy’s or kitten’s teeth in between visits is easier on both of you if you start when they are young. We will instruct you on ways you can improve their oral hygiene at home through brushing, proper diet, and beneficial chews. It is never too early or too late to begin taking care of your pet’s dental needs.
